Who Knew Laser Pointers Could Be Harmful?

November 19, 2010

One of the funnest things about coming to one of my financial seminars is the power point presentation and the special effects. Clients wouldn’t stand in ovation but they would make “Wow Noises” which led me to believe they enjoyed the spectacle, if not, the financial information they received. But today I have learned that “Powerful Laser Pointers Create Risks which is an article in todays USA Today’s Newspaper Lasers deliver a beam of focused light, usually of a single wavelength. The eye focuses the light narrowly, which can scar the retina.Laser swirls

So here are a few laser tips:

  • Don’t shine a laser pointer at anyone, including pets.
  • Don’t buy laser pointers for children.
  • Only buy Class I to IIIa lasers, which have power levels under 5 milliwatts.

Apparently, higher-power lasers can damage eyes before people even have time to blink. Be assured that at GAI (www.gunwel.com) we have put away the laser pointers during our financial seminars and will use the old fashion wooden pointers that Sister Mary Claire used on the board (and on us) in 7th grade. At GAI (www.gunwel.com) we enjoy offering financial seminars free to all. Give us a call at 212-979-6830 to find out when our next presentation is going to be, or swing by for a visit. See you soon.
