It’s Almost Winter in NYC!

November 22, 2010

Winter Storm in NYCDuring my Monday morning podcasts I always discuss the weather here in NYC. That stems from my Mother’s family that consists of 9 brothers and sisters (spread all over the United States), when they would start a conversation, they’d always start by giving you a weather report. When your 13 years old you don’t care, but as a grown up it has some significance. I received my ConEdison bill in the mail and it had the greatest newsletter: the ConEd Newsletter (so great, here is a copy). I like newsletters that are concise, small blurbs of information and visually appealing. My office bill has gone down in the past few months as I’ve implemented what they have mentioned in their past newsletters.

Here are some of the tips this month that make lots of sense, especially with winter approaching on December 21.

  • Set your thermostat to 68 degrees during the day and 60 degrees at night.
  • Seal air leaks around window and door frames with caulk or weather stripping.
  • Move drapes or furniture away from radiators.
  • Change or clean furnace filters at least once a month.
  • Use energy-saving compact fluorescent bulbs.
