Money Making Ideas For Those That Have Money?!?

December 24, 2010

Every year around this time, scads (Yes that is a word that Hayley Mills always used in the great movie “The Trouble With Angels“) of magazine and newspaper articles give ideas re the upcoming year and how you can make money…thus changing your life. Last week the USA Today Newspaper had a column/ blurb (not actually an article) called “11 Money-Making Ideas for 2011.” As I was going thru  the 11 ideas I realized that most of them were set up for people who had disposable income, investment income or the time and cash to investigate these. I’m going to give you their list then give you my three favorite from my list.

  1. Go B.I.G.: This acronym means “big international growth” stocks.
  2. T.I.M.E. spells opportunity: Technology, industrials, materials and energy. (sectors of stock talk).
  3. Dividend growers: Fatter dividends add up to more sizable total returns.
  4. Money protector play: Steer clear of gold.
  5. U.S. stocks over bonds: Investors rush into the safety of bonds.
  6. Follow the free cash-flow trail: Companies that generate a lot of cash have more options when it comes to maintaining growth.
  7. Geographic pairs: U.S over Japan.
  8. Beware bond mutual funds: Investors need to be careful owning bond funds.
  9. Return on equity is king: The best cash-generating companies are those with good returns on equity.
  10. Quality, Quality, Quality: Look for high-quality growth companies.
  11. Invest in infrastructure: The companies that supply goods and services to those markets will do well.

Bill’s list:

  1. Dog Walking: a tapped but untapped market. You need to love  dogs, some business cards ($25), visit some vet office for networking and realize that in NYC folks pay $$$ to have their pet walked.
  2. Drink water: yeah, yeah , yeah I know what your thinking, but try it for a month. I did. My daily coffee (in a month) was two months of a metro card. And I lost weight.
  3. On Demand: connected to the cable box has current movies for $4.99 – $6.99 that are playing in the theater and I don’t have to pay the $13 a ticket.
