Animal Taxi Services Available, Yes They Are!

January 11, 2011

When Cosmo comes to the office or goes to the acupunturist he needs to take a taxi. My office is 31 blocks from home and the acupunturist is about 22 blocks from home. I have a car but prefer to take him in a taxi as parking is hit and miss. It is difficult to flag a taxi down when they see the size of Cosmo. Those cabs that have stopped either love dogs or want to charge us an extra $10 for the pleasure of their help. Cosmo (the amazing tax dog) loves to travel in taxis as I think that makes him feel very Cosmopolitan (yes, pun intended). An article came out in last weekends Post that is called “Porte-A-Pettie, Animal tax services offer owners a reliable ride.”

David Yassky, chairman of the New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission states the clearly: “Service animals are welcome in every NYC taxicab, while pet dogs are allowed only at the driver’s discretion, unless they are secured in a kennel case.” Unfortunately, due to TLC’s discretion rule, finding a “pet friendly” cab is in the luck of the hail. Some drivers embrace dogs of all sizes, others don’t want them in their cabs at all. Larry Reilly, owner of Pet Taxi (, saw a definite need for a reliable animal carrier to transport pets snubbed by the TLC’s “discretion” regulation. Now 15 years since its inception, Pet Taxi continues to transport roughly 10 dogs, cats and exotic animals a day, providing rides to and from airports, the Hampton’s or “anywhere they need to go.” Other companies such as Pet Chauffeur ( and K-9 Cars ( have business out of chauffeuring pets, knowing full well that added amenities such as clean and well-ventilated crates, doggies seat belts that allow freedom of movement and online booking give them a leg up in the competitive market.

Cosmo is very excited to have other variations of travel. Gunwel Tax & Bookkeeping Service  is VERY dog friendly. Cosmo (the amazing tax dog) has donated some toys he doesn’t play with (yes we cleaned out his toy box) for the office so your dog can play while you get your taxes done. Give us a call at 212-979-6830 or stop by for a visit. See you soon.
