Do You Know Your Neighbors?

February 7, 2011

This past weekend I had the opportunity to visit with a French couple that lives upstairs from our office. Since they just moved from France this past fall, I brought a friend of mine that is a French teacher in Westchester and also studied for a year in Lyon, France. My intention was that this would be a great opportunity for him to practice his French with real Parisians and give them a respite from having to speak English. Well, it was almost the exact opposite. They wanted to speak as much English as possible and ask questions about our language. We had a wonderful time with them and once the children arose from their naps, the French started rolling again.

Gunwel Associates, Inc.

This reminded me of all the times I assume a situation is going to go one way and it goes completely in the opposite direction. I think this happens with our new clients all the time because taxes can be a very scary subject when you are not educated on the rules and regulations. For instance, we recently had a client come in extremely upset because their part-time accountant told them they had to pay over $15,000 in taxes. After we received a copy of the financials, met with them to determine their business model and spent a couple of days researching the situation, we were able to save that company over thousands of dollars on their 2010 return.

Now, I can’t say we can save this much for all of our clients, but no matter what your expectations are, we may be able to turn your dreaded experience with taxes into a positive one. Tax time is stressful and that is why we take an alternative approach. We aren’t corporate and stuffy, we’re relaxed and caring. We want to make sure you get the most back from your tax return and when we handle your finances throughout the year, its even easier when tax time comes.

Take a few minutes and browse our web site for our tax time resources or feel free to give us a call and make an appointment for a free consultation. We respond to emails throughout the day so please drop us a not at We look forward to being a part of your financial future and look forward to working with you soon.
