Is The IRS Really Just Financial Zombies?

March 27, 2011

In case you haven’t noticed, Americans are obsessed with zombies. According to USA Today, “zombies (are) feeding a frenzy of books, movies and TV shows fueling our fascination with the living dead.” Websites like Zombiemovies.com and XZombi.com have launched dedicated solely to listing the top zombie movies of all time, even offering clips of the best zombie attacks. So what’s with the obsession? Steven Scholzman, author of The Zombie Autopsies: Secret Notebooks From The Apocalypse, told USA Today it’s because “the mindless stumbling about feels increasingly like our world.” Don’t you feel comatose when your waiting at the DMV or trying to speak to someone at the Social Security Administration? I know I do.

Steen Scholzman described it as our “characterization as modernity is increasingly disconnected and disembodied, it feels zombie-like.” The mindless moving about going towards one goal is kind of like many of our daily lives. It’s the same daily grind, minus the whole living dead and eating brains thing. When asked about which creature is scarier, vampires or zombies, zombies clearly win. With vampires like the  Cullens, this one isn’t even an argument. Hands down zombies win. When it comes to the type of zombie, it’s the slow-moving ones that instill more fear simply because you have more time to imagine all the horrible things they will do once they get you. The quick-moving ones only give you time to run. Almost seems similar to our government-run agencies. The law enforcement agencies that just go right after the criminal only force them to move faster but the IRS for example is slow and takes its time. It’s still coming to get you, just at its own pace. So while cheating on your taxes for the last 5 years has worked, you will get caught and boy oh boy is that scary. Just like with slow-moving zombies, all you need to really do is step aside, or turn state’s evidence, and the zombies will eat somebody elses guts. The similarities are alarming.
